Netflix spend over $25 million for promoting Roma for oscors
Netflix's critically acclaimed drama, ‘Roma’, received 10 Oscar nominations this year, including one for ‘Best Picture’. The semi-autobiographical movie also won film-maker Alfonso Cuaron a 'Best Director' nomination, and is believed to be a lock for the 'Best Foreign Language Film'category.
However, according to The New York Times, the streaming giant is leaving nothing to chance, and has reportedly spend upwards of $25 million on its Oscar campaign, which included a 'Roma Experience Day' for Oscar voters last December, where attendees were superimposed into a Roma scene.
While the film will face tough competition from BlacKkKlansman, Green Book and Black Panther in the Best Film category, a win for a primarily online film promises to change the game for Hollywood, especially with the launch of other big streaming services this year, said USC media studies professor, Marty Kaplan
