What is GPS how it works explained
We have seen many different types of technology and advancement from which some of them are known and some are still to be explored to get most out it.Have you ever wondered how we navigate through maps or how we track something through internet or how do we provide location online? So,all this is possible with the help of a satellite system known as GPS.Lets get started to know more about GPS.
What is GPS?
GPS stands for Global Positioning System, which is a satellite navigation system that provides location and some time information that too in all type of climate conditions to the user.GPS can be used to navigate different vehicles like cars, trucks etc.,GPS also provides navigation, timing and 3-dimensional positioning worldwide.
How does GPS work and determines the position?
'Trilateration' is the mathematical principle on which Global Positioning System is based on.Four satellites are used to determine the position of the user or receiver on the earth. The main and target location is then confirmed by the satellite 4 and rest of the 3 satellites helps in tracing out the location.GPS consists of a satellite, monitor station and control station. The method of 'triangualtion' is used to determine the exact location of user after receiving the information from from the satellite.
ADVANTAGES:
-The main advantage for the commercial user is navigation system that helps in providing us the direction to reach any desired destination.
-It provides very high-speed information.
-Can be used to determine distance between two different location.
-It can help in creating digitized maps.
DISADVANTAGES:
-These signals are too weak as compared to phone signals which makes it non-usable in indoors or underwater.
-Doesn't works in urban areas because it requires line-of-sight to get highest accuracy.
